Sure, Obama was right at home amongst the uber-wealthy Leftists in San Francisco. Maybe he just forgot about modern communications and the penalty for saying incredibly stupid things. Some people have been criticizing Obama’s shameful comments in San Francisco. (Okay, they’re only shameful if the speaker has any sense of shame, which I’m not sure Bambi possesses.) Below are just a few links.
- Obama Explains God-Crazy, Gun-Humping Pennsylvania Rubes to San Francisco’s Billionaire’s Row
- Obama on small-town voters: Bitter, xenophobic, religious

But never fear, Bambi’s got friendz in bitter places to spring to his defense.
I am an American citizen and have watched our government for over 20 years ignore the needs of rural Americans, blue collar Americans, Americans struggling to make ends meet and I understand exactly what Senator Obama was saying when he stated we were “bitter” and I do not take offense to the comment as he was reflecting EXACTLY how many of us feel. He is not demeaning us, he is understanding us.
That first sentence is a doozy. Before I begin making fun of this poor, embittered Kos Kid, I suppose I ought to offer a bit on my credentials to speak about gun-humping, xenophobic, rural Americans.
I grew up with cows in the backyard. The county in which I was raised had roughly the same population as the last university I attended, only the county’s population was situated on 600 square miles with a population density of about 49 people per square mile. (The population density of Chicago is approximately 12,750 per square mile.) My hometown didn’t have a stoplight until last year.
Oh, and my dad has enough hunting rifles and shotguns to be his own well-armed militia. Then again, everybody that lives in his neighborhood has a gun and everyone knows it. For some reason or other, no one can remember the last time anyone had anything stolen from their property.
All that being said, francny, the Kos diarist in question, is wrong. What Obama said is absolutely demeaning. Obama did not indicate any kind of understanding. He exhibited base snobbery.
While the pundits and so-called experts parse every single word he says they miss the issue he is raising. Washington and its politicians have forgotten about the needs of these very same citizens and only pay attention if these same citizens fall back on issues they know will get some attention as in a politician’s attempt to be politically correct they of course won’t ignore issues such as gay rights, immigration, and gun control. Does no one realize that as Americans we are desparate [sic] to have our voices heard? Obama understands this.
I really do hope Obama understands. francny’s grammar can be beastly.
Speaking for myself, what Senator Obama said spoke to me directly and I resent Senator Clinton taking this issue and attacking Obama for saying what I have been thinking for several years.
I AM angry. I AM bitter. I am fed up with politicians SAYING they will address issues of concern to me regarding the economy only to secure a vote but then ignore their promises once they achieve their goal of going to Washington.
I think the angry and bitter part explains why francny is hanging out at Daily Kos. It seems to be a common attribute. I do feel a bit bad for francny. It seems that he (I’m just going to use male pronouns for simplicity’s sake) expects politicians to act like something other than politicians.
Regardless of what francny’s concerns about the economy are, Obama would not be good for the economy. As noted in an earlier post, I pointed out his lack of personal finance competency. The Conservative Intelligencer points out NTU cost analysis projections that highlight Obama’s projected federal spending spree. francny highlights Obama’s sound economic policies by… oh, wait. No. It’s more ranting about Hillary.
As a New York resident, unfortunatly [sic], I have suffered under the false promises of Senator Clinton. Promises she never INTENDED to keep and watched as she personally secured visas to bring in hundreds of Indian Nationals to take technical jobs she had PROMISED to New York workers who had been downsized by companies who had taken their jobs overseas. Senator Clinton likes to claim she is concerned for low-income and blue collar workers, but here in New York she has not a clue for in her elitest [sic] circle here in New York, she doesn’t have to associate with them when she is not campaigning.
There’s no way I’m going to try to deal with all those run-on sentences. How many times can one use “[sic]” before it becomes an eyesore?
francny has discovered the joys of electing a Clinton. I have found it quite entertaining to watch Democrats discover that all those things The Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy, Inc., said about the Clintons were not lies.
francny continues with a long, rambling story of the misfortunes of a friend. Yes, it is sad. Unfortunately, such things happen. Sometimes people do need to use safety net services. francny goes on to complain about bias against welfare recipients and while calling out others’ ignorance of welfare programs, shows some of his own. But I’ll leave that be and pick up with this Medicaid rant.
I as a long time taxpayer am fed up with people looking down on people who use those services that DO exist to help them get on their feet or who after years of paying their taxes become disabled and then qualify for Social Security Disability, putting them on a fixed income therefore qualifying them to perhaps receive help from what many call Welfare. They get assistance through the Medicaid program which is ADMINISTERED by Welfare. It is NOT welfare for those who have payed into the system, faithfully paying their taxes with the assurance that if something happens putting them on Disability (which they earn based on the years they paid into the program)that they can receive some help to just exist with the basics. You know rent, FOOD, medicine, etc.
I must admit. I am terribly curious as to who or what this “Welfare” is.
Title XIX of the Social Security Act is a Federal/State entitlement program that pays for medical assistance for certain individuals and families with low incomes and resources. This program, known as Medicaid, became law in 1965 as a cooperative venture jointly funded by the Federal and State governments… (US Department of Health & Human Services)
I may not know about “Welfare,” but I do have some inside knowledge on how Medicaid works. I have analyzed certain Medicaid data for an employer. The problem with Medicaid, and all the associated fraud and abuse, has little to do with the people who are either on the program until they get back on their feet or who have become disabled after paying into the system for many years.
Generally, I do not think Americans look down on people who make temporary use of these resources or who become disabled. I, personally, have a problem with people who abuse these resources. Analyzing Medicaid data did not make me feel any warmer towards those who feel falsely entitled to suck on a government teat.
Senator Obama as he took his bus tour through Pennsylvania spoke with many of these very same citizens who face some of the very same issues I write about. And YES, we are bitter. Bitter that the politicans who seem to think they know what is best for us, ignore basic needs. And they most certainly have not truly addressed issues such as housing, and work opportunities. They are bitter that the Federal Government continues to cut services as they send billions to Iraq and other countries. That the government doesn’t see a problem with shipping jobs to other countries, taking away the very soul of the American citizen’s pride in being able to work and have the American Dream.
Here we come to the fundamental difference between francny and me. I do not understand the concept of being bitter because another deeply flawed human being thinks he knows what is best for me, but ignores my needs. It is called personal responsibility, francny. If you expect the government nanny to know/do what is best for you, bitterness is the least of your problems.
No one can promise you that you will be able to work or have the American Dream. The beauty of America is that you have the freedom to pursue your own dream.
Senator Clinton attacks Senator Obama’s comments as if SHE were in tune with the needs of rual [sic] Americans and low income Americans, yet she singlehandedly hurt programs in New York State in her eagerness to please her friends in India and China. She doesn’t seem to think there is a problem with promising New York residents jobs, yet instead imports foreign workers to take the jobs she promised to the suffering citizens who have lost their jobs in the state.
Again, it’s the joy of electing a Clinton and incredible naivete. From here, francny proceeds to talk about his own disability income and bitterness, before dropping this gem.
…for in Senator Obama’s campaign, EVERYONE is equal and welcome. I personally have experienced volunteers in the Obama campaign offering to drive me to events, have driven me to meetings, included me in EVERYTHING. EVERYONE is welcome and equal and it is reflected in the attitudes of his campaign workers and volunteer organizers. We PERSONALLY have witnessed that he looks down on NO ONE and demeans NO ONE.
I guess Grandma doesn’t volunteer. Any Jooos? Is Whitey welcome? Oh, what about those blue collar people he “wasn’t” demeaning?
If anyone is looking down on American citizens it is the Clinton campaign. She is the elitist yet she strives to make people believe she is concerned about blue collar Americans and low-income Americans who are suffering with the current state of the economy. She played that mantra before in her Senate campaign and promptly forgot about the workers in upstate New York who have watched plants close and their jobs go overseas.
Why the blue collar citizens of Pennsylvania are believing her lies is beyond me. Senator Obama is much more in tune with understanding the needs and concerns of those most affected by the state of the economy.
Because Obama understands both blue collar citizens and the economy.
In calling Hillary “the elitist,” francny seems to imply that Obama didn’t receive a very privileged education to go with a very privileged career. I’m not sure how well a man, whose wife seems to think they can’t live on two six-figure incomes, understands the plight of the people francny is apparently attempting to champion.
Senator Clinton has hoodwinked blue collar and low-income voters into believing she actually cares about them, for it is her belief that if you are low-income, then you are uneducated and would not understand her history. Granted she has been successful in doing so with some, but there are many that recognize that Senator Obama actually listened to them while he met with them during this campaign. In Senator Clinton’s mind all low-income citizens are uneducated. I beg to differ. I have met many low-income people who are highly educated and due to circumstances are currently low-income.
By no means am I to be confused with a Hillary Clinton supporter, but even I can’t help but wonder where francny could dream of finding support for his claims about what is in Clinton’s mind with regards to the education of anyone.
So am I bitter? Yes I am. And Senator Obama recognizes this. Should he lie like Hillary Clinton does, or state the truth and reflect in his comments exactly how some of we [sic] citizens feel. Bitter and left out.
We get that YOU are bitter. Are some other people bitter? Sure. Does that mean you slander a large number of people? Well, apparently only if you are Obama.
And do I in my concern refocus on other issues? YES. Senator Obama is correct in stating that we turn to our religion for strength.
Could I suggest a new religion? This one apparently isn’t working for you. I’m not feeling a lot of strength coming from you. In my experience with religion, bitterness was something striven against not embraced.
And they AND I are angry that funds are spent on illegal immigrants that used to go to programs that would personally help me. For example, training programs that would help me learn a NEW skill so I could work. It used to be that if you became disabled and not be able to work in the job you once had, in my case nursing, then you could qualify to go back to school and have it paid for so you could learn a new skill in order to work again. I desparately wanted to go back to college to study and a few years ago that would have been possible. But that particular program had it’s funds cut in order to teach English to illegal immigrants so they could start on the road to citizenship and funds spent on educational opportunities for illegals INSTEAD of me, someone who paid their taxes for years with the knowledge that the Federal Government would assist me if I became disabled. I am now on a search for scholarships to help me go back to school for a new degree so I can work in a new field. I have my Master’s in Nursing and had a high paying job and was living the American Dream and now I struggle alongside my friend, looking for opportunities long gone for we citizens and hoping that finally we have a candidate who recognizes these issues and doesn’t pay lip service to them. Senator Obama speaks the truth.
I would absolutely love to know a) what truth Obama is speaking and b) exactly how Obama is going to change what those illegals stole from YOU personally. But, hey, I get that you are bitter. Being bitter is so productive. Perhaps instead of “watching” the government for 20 years, you might have considered doing something. No, wait. Bitter. It’s the way to go.
So this is one bitter citizen who believes in this candidate. It has been my experience that on this website that there will be those who go on the attack against my statements, and believe me many of you can be cruel. But these are my personal opinions and every citizen has a right to have them and if so moved, write about them. There are millions of us out here and some of us say we are the forgotten ones, those who have fallen on difficult times and watch as those that once respected us for our status in life due to the education and jobs and incomes we once had, now put us down, complaining they are paying taxes to support us. Those that put us down should hope they never become disabled or have their jobs disappear, for you too shall be in our position and have people that once admired you, now say they resent paying taxes so YOU can receive benefits you EARNED.
So attack away if you want, but I stand by what I wrote. But as you attack, put this thought in your heads. ”There but for the grace of God go I”.
Senator Obama speaks for citizens such as myself and we ARE bitter and finally have hope in a candidate that actually listens to us. He is not demeaning us, he is speaking FOR us.
I think there is more than the grace of God keeping me from being so bitter about the long illness I’ve had to endure. Sure, I’m not thrilled that my hair is still shorter than I have ever willingly cut it or that I still have not recovered or that I still cannot discuss how painful and scary it was at times or that, for months I was agitated at my cat, Felix, for saving my life.
Carrying bitterness does not harm those against whom you are bitter. Carrying bitterness only damages the bearer. I do not have the energy to carry the kind of bitterness francny seems to enjoy. Obama is not going to erase his bitterness. Not even God will do that… francny will have to lay his bitterness down first.
But at least francny gave me an idea for a new Obama poster.

Obama could have milked Hillary’s Bosnia fabrication for all it was worth but did not.
Hillary sure as Hell is milking this little gem for all it is worth tho’.
If, indeed, this was a dicourse in which Obama were trying to drive home the point of how pathetic were the PA rural people and how superior he was, than Hillary’s argument would have merit.
Obama was deploring how let down and frustrated PA people have been lately.
unfortunately , he chose word that could be twisted aroujnd to suggest something else.
So congrats. you have found a “Gotcha” moment and you are running with it.
Oh, they’re all there. Obama is a successful demagogue.
That’s right. I’m running like I’ve got scissors! Check around. You’ll find that I’m unequivocal in my dislike of Obama. I don’t like Hillary either… but at least she doesn’t have a Kool-Aid Cult of Personality surrounding her.
“Obama was deploring the frustration…”
He was revealing what an elitist he is.
50% of Americans do not believe in evolutionAmerican Shoolkid lag far behind many many countries
from 2000-2008 we have had Alfred E. Newman in thne White house. If McCain is elected little will change.
The economy is a mess
Iraq is a fiasco
I hope that things improve.
vote your conscience
The economy is not the problem you’d make it out to be.
Iraq’s not a fiasco. Our educational problems have many causes including bad parenting and the NEA’s protection of bad teachers. I do not trust your 50% figure. Besides, evolution is not something that requires belief.
You need not worry. I’ll vote, and by my criteria.
Amazing, francny is a liberal who found something that *didn’t* offend him. He was last spotted hanging with Bigfoot and Elvis while riding their unicorns that fart rainbows
melo
A. Our economy is not a problem?
-The dollar is on the verge of losing its place as the dominant currency in the world.
-We are borrowin g money from :China, Japan and Saudi Arabia to buy Chinese goods and finance the Iraq war and the trade deficit.
-Manufacturing jobs are fleeing the USA.
-Our national debt is skyrocketing.
B. Iraq is not a fiasco? A political solution is nowhere in sight after 5 + years?
C. I agree that our declining educational status is multi-factorial. Americans are no longer the brighest crayons in the box and as a result we chose GW Bush as our “fearless leader”
D. I found 50% disbelief in evolution unbelieveable too. I hope that you are right.
E. Evolution comes under the category of science which is not our general population’s strong suit.
E. I would not be upset if Roe Vs. Wade were overturned. I think that abortion should be safe, legal and rare. I thing that men should have nothing to say on the subject. I admit that the subject is debateable. Abortion should clearly not be a means of birth control.
F. I would gladly trade Roe Vs. Wade for a President who knew something about the economy and that recognised that Iraq was a terrible mistake and should not be pursued.
G. I am a retired physician and have my own ideas about health care financing. I do not think that McCain has any particular insight or experience in health care. He has taken some health care plan off the shelf and has incorporated that into his pitch. If you are going to base your choice on McCain’s health care plan but be ready to “wing it” on economics and world affairs, I submit that you have misplaced priorities.
H. BTW McCain’s 23 combat missions over 3 months and 5 1/2 years as POW is commendable but I submit that any number of others in Vietnam qualify as war hero as much or more than McCain. I fail to see how that qualifies him to be President without many qualities that he clearly lacks. He has a hot temper and is superstitous which I think would hamper his decision processes. The Presidency should not be McCain’s reward for his perceived heroism in Vietnam.
Heh. He sure was. What an elitist.
So, that means 50% do believe in evolution!
God save us.
Neither do I.
Do you mean the phenomenon, the concept, or the term “evolution” ?
Well, in any case, the highest status that evolution can attain in the realm of human knowledge is that of a belief. If you think that it is something that does not require belief, then you’re being dogmatic and faithful about evolution.
These people pick and choose what does and does not offend them. Ask gasdocpol here, he’ll tell ya.
McCain? Who said anything about McCain? I thought this was a Pro-Hillary site…
You silly thing.
gasdocpol,
I’m not quite sure how your A-H relate to Obama being the candidate of the bitter.
