couldn’t happen to a nicer guy

When I saw that John Ford had failed in his latest attempt to delay his prison sentence, all I could think was “yay!”

A federal judge Friday rejected another attempt by former state Sen. John Ford to delay a 5 1/2-year prison sentence for bribery.

Ford, 65, is scheduled to begin the sentence Monday at a federal prison near Pollock, La.

He was convicted almost a year ago of taking $55,000 in bribes from undercover agents with the FBI’s statewide corruption investigation, code named Tennessee Waltz.

Ford argued that he needed to remain free because of a federal court hearing next month on unrelated corruption charges in Nashville where he is accused of failing to report $800,000 in consulting payments from state contractors.

“To incarcerate him now would necessitate his languishing in local jails” while attending the Nashville hearing and other such proceedings, Ford said in his request.
