then we’re all screwed. From Real Clear Politics. Any emphasis mine.
“There’s a real huge misconception in the traditional media about who we are as a voting group,” Moulitsas said. “And I say ‘traditional’ because we’re the mainstream. From healthcare to Iraq to national security to intelligence to education.”
Harold Ford, Jr., of the Democratic Leadership Council, agreed to a “moderated discussion.” Oddly enough, I kinda respect Harold Ford, Jr. He deserves some recognition for coming out of Memphis’s infamous Ford political dynasty and NOT having been accused of major corruption (or gone to jail yet). But he’s definitely no right wing shill (otherwise I would have voted for him in 2006).
While Ford and Moulitsas respectfully agreed and disagreed on issues and overall strategies of the Democratic Party, Ford was assailed during the question-and-answer session that followed, with one questioner (who referred to him as “Senator Ford”) calling him a right wing shill and attacking him for his previous work as a Fox News analyst.
If Moulitsas’s netroots were truly the mainstream, why would they attack a MODERATE Democrat who rarely strayed from the party line? And why would it be in their interest if no Democrats provided news analysis on Fox News? Would no opinions from Democrats make Fox News seem more balanced to these people?
UPDATE (from The Corner):
Two statements from Markos Moulitsas, made minutes apart on MSNBC:
I’m not going to carry water for Barack Obama...I’m not going to be like the Republicans who excused George Bush time and time again. He’s not tacking to the center…We’re squarely behind him…At the end of the day, he’s our nominee, and we’re behind him 100 percent.
UPDATE the Second (from WSJ’s Washington Wire):
Undeterred, Ford insisted, “I’m proud of my voting record” and took issue with Moulitsas’s and others’ assertions that the political mood expressed here is the mainstream of the country. “I promise you that if you would’ve come to Memphis with your positions I’d have beaten you, too,” Ford responded to the questioner.
Nice.

Why did this pop into my head?
Real Rick James: See, I never just did things just to do them. Come on, what am I gonna do? Just all of a sudden jump up and grind my feet on somebody’s couch like it’s something to do? Come on. I got a little more sense then that.
[pause]
Real Rick James: Yeah, I remember grinding my feet on Eddie’s couch.
Umm, sorry Markos, but Obama IS tracking to the center, as hard as he can. Which is the same mistake the Democrats have made in the last two elections.
This is kinda the opposite of what McCain seems to be doing. During the primaries McCain was by far the most moderate of the Republicans and seemed to be hugging the center line. Now that he’s the nominee he’s pushing farther right every day. It’s certainly put the conservatives on Nashville talk radio firmly behind him, but it might bite him in his ass come election time with the undecided independents.
Wait the DailyKos is the mainstream? Oh god are we fucked…
Lets see:
Passport – check
Toiletry bag – check
Wad of foreign currency from cashing in my stocks and IRA’s – check
Large caliber handgun – check
English to Japanese dictionary – check
Change of socks and bower shorts – check
Cyanide tablets just in case I can’t make it out – check
OK I’m cool…
Harold Ford is not a “moderate” Democrat. He is the Republican’s favorite Democrat (after Joe Lieberman, I guess, if you can still call him a Democrat). Ford does little more than parrot Republican talking points, and deserves to be marginalized by the Democratic Party.
Are you saying that simply because Harold Ford, Jr., was a fiscally responsible Blue Dog Democrat, that he’s somehow not a moderate? If he parroted Republican talking points, he would have won the Senate race in TN in 2006. I’m not the only Republican who held her nose and voted for Corker.
I think Dave is one of the people that are so far left that they think any one in the center is far right. Kind of like the Kos kids thinking they are the mainstream. You can tell by the implied dislike of Lieberman who I would call a moderate (he’s left on social issues and right on defense issues). Yes Ford is a Blue Dog Democrat or in other words a Democrat that still likes this country. If the Democrats what to marginalize every moderate in their party they are going to end up destroying themselves since most people vote for moderates not the far left or the far right.
